beeinflightJOIN US AT THE BEE!

Each spring, the Brookline Education Foundation Adult Spelling Bee brings our diverse community together for a wonderful fundraising event. Businesses, PTOs, neighborhood and community groups, town and public safety organizations, all sponsor teams of three spellers. Distinguished judges and pronouncers, prizes contributed by local businesses, and a diabolical selection of words, all contribute to the festivities. Competition is intense to win the coveted Bee trophy as well as the prize for best costume.

This year, the BEF's Annual Adult Bee will take place on Sunday, March 11, 2012 from 2 to 6 pm in the Brookline High School Auditorium, 115 Greenough Street.

The Children's Spelling Bee preceeds the Adult Bee and starts at noon in the BHS auditorium. Details about the Children's Bee will be mailed to the homes of Brookline Public School 5th grade students at the end of January.

If you are unable to join us, you can view the Bee in the comfort of your own home. Broadcasts and rebroadcasts of the Bee are presented and produced exclusively by Brookline Access TV and carried on Access Channel (Comcast 3 / RCN 3) and Municipal Channel (Comcast 23 / RCN 15).

For details, see the Brookline Education Foundation Entry Form, Spelling Bee Rules, Team Procedures, and Instructions for Pronouncers and Judges.

celebratingteachers Thank you to supporters of our 30th anniversary

BEF30 logo

Thanks to our generous donors, the BEF has promoted innovation and excellence in Brookline Public schools since 1981and is well positioned to continue to build on this legacy as a steadfast support for public education in the future.

As one of the first local education foundations in the country, the BEF provides the only means for our community to invest private money in public education from preschool through grade 12. These funds make the difference between a good school system and the superb system for which Brookline is known.

Through its grants and awards, the BEF maintains and enhances the high caliber of Brookline schools by supporting outstanding teaching, innovative curricula, administrative leadership, and major educational initiatives.

Thank you for your support!

celebratingteachers Foundation Announces Gift to Schools

microscope

The Brookline Education Foundation presented a gift of science equipment to the Public Schools of Brookline in honor of the Foundation’s 25th anniversary. This equipment is greatly enhancing science teaching and learning in all Brookline schools.

Each elementary school has received a stereo microscope and books to support the curriculum for every second grade classroom as well as one microscope camera for use by the entire school.  Stereo microscopes provide magnified, three-dimensional views of visible objects. Microscope cameras can display magnified images of all types of objects to an entire class at once via a computer or TV monitor.

In addition, Brookline High School has received a groundwater simulator. This simulator is providing visualization and hands-on experience of complex groundwater principles in BHS chemistry, environmental science, science seminars, and physics classes.

Throughout the 2008-09 school year, the BEF hosted parent breakfasts in each of the Brookline elementary schools during which Townwide Science Curriculum Coordinator Janet MacNeil discussed the kindergarten through grade 2 science curriculum.
