THE ANDREA CILLEY ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION FUND
|
| |
This Fund is intended as a tribute to the memory of Andrea Cilley, a Brookline Public School parent who died suddenly on January 18, 2007. Andrea’s children attend the Runkle School. The Brookline Education Foundation was chosen as the recipient of this Fund in recognition of Andrea's devotion to the Brookline Public Schools.
By helping to support the 2008-09 “Earth Science by Design: Building Science Professional Development Capacity” collaborative grant, the Fund honors Andrea’s love of nature and fierce desire to save the planet. The grant will enable Janet MacNeil (Elementary Science Curriculum Coordinator) and six middle school science teachers, including Deb Allen, Mark Goldner, Maxine Hunter, Ryan Keser, and Sue Zobel, to complete a program on the application of Understanding by Design principles to Earth Science instruction, including the areas of recycling and environmentalism. Participants subsequently will help train other Brookline teachers in this innovative approach to science education.
